van der Woude: what does it stand for?
The name "van der Woude" is used by many, different families from amongst others:
- Amsterdam / Delft
- Lekkerkerk
- Friesland
etc
I have not been able to make links between these families.
The genealogy I have published is concerning the Amsterdam / Delft family.
I assumed that the name origins from the small Island De Woude near Marken-Binnen.
That is probably NOT correct.
The oldest van der Woude comes from Meppel in the east of the Netherlands.
About the other families Herman van der Woude from Lelystad has collected much data.
Meaning:
About the meaning of the name van der Woude we are not sure yet.
Of course the man who started using the name will have anything to do with woods, but that can also concern his ancestors.
Genealogists who want to do further investigantions on these families have a nice job left.
