You can save on water and electricity by employing your washing machine cleverly.

The energy and water consumption of washing machines is what makes them environmentally taxing. New washing machine no longer differ much from each other when it comes to their energy consumption. Most machines have an A or a B rating. Washing machines nowadays are also getting more and more efficient with the use of water. There are now Triple A machines available that have an A rating for their energy consumption, as well as for their washing and spin-drying capacity.

So-called hotfill washing machines are directly connected to the warm water tap in the home. That will considerably reduce their energy consumption.

Tips
• Washing machines with a Triple-A rating are often more expensive to purchase, but lower energy bills will recover the extra cost.
• The spin-dry settings vary from 400 to 1800 revolutions per minute. The higher the revolutions, the dryer the laundry will come out. This will save you energy when you use a tumble dryer.
• Washing at lower temperatures and with a full drum will also make a difference in water, energy and costs.
• Use the correct dosage of detergent. We quickly use too much.
