Royal Awards for Sustainability (RAS)is an initiative of the European Environmental Agency, Copenhagen City Council, the Danish refuse company R98 and Scandinavian Airlines SAS. RAS promotes sustainable development by rewarding excellent performance and best practise. The Awards aim to strengthen the environment via activities that raise awareness on environmental issues and promotes dialogue between the public sector, industry and the general public. A long-term goal is to encourage behavioural change through debate, as well as by identifying and rewarding sustainable initiatives with a wide range of award programmes in Europe. Prizes are awarded in the fields of:

Responsible Leadership and Investment

The ECOmove Film Festival Award.
Two activities, The European Poster Contest and the Art of Recycling, are aimed at children and youth. The Award programmes are developed in close cooperation with various sponsors and partners across Europe.
The Protectors of Royal Awards for Sustainability are: HRH Crownprince Frederik of Denmark and HRH Crownprince Felipe of Spain.
