Legionella prevention

Legionella prevention is of the utmost importance to us.
We have taken several precautions to eliminate the risk as much as possible:

  • Ours mains water is continuously circulating. Water stagnation, especially of water around 25 degrees, encourages the growth of Legionella bacteria.
  • We maintain a minimum temperature of 65 degrees. This is the temperature at which the Legionella bacteria die. When the water in our solar boiler is not hot enough, the conventional heater automatically heats it to the right temperature.
  • Samples are taken annually by the water laboratory wln.gif to ensure that our system is functioning well.
  • Showers that have not been used for a week will be flushed through with hot water.
  • Cold water taps on the site that have not been used for a week are flushed through.
  • All showers are built to leave as little water as possible between the shower head and the circulating water system.
  • All showers are fitted with a valve that allows all the water to drain from the shower hose after use. This new concept is unfortunately not yet a legal requirement.
  • We keep a log book to monitor our measures and their implementation.

Legionella prevention is a legal requirement, but unfortunately it is not often being enforced.
It is a worrying fact that the majority of mini and midi campsites do not yet meet the requirements, while everything should be done to avoid another West Friesland disaster.
Should you notice anything on our campsite that you suspect could pose a risk to health or safety, please let us know.

Legionella prevention is part of our campsite's
security.

Hot water is supplied by a solar boiler and two solar collectors ("warm water")

The washing machine uses hot water straight from the solar boiler. The tumble dryer uses natural gas ("wasmachine").

Rain water is used for flushing the toilets ("water").
